Parent and Toddler Group

The Parent and Toddler group was originally set up by Eunice Franklin about 12 years ago to provide a focal point for parents with young families. It continues today to be held every Wednesday during term time in the village hall. It starts at 09.30 and ends at 11.30 but this is relaxed and parents are free to come and go at their leisure. The cost at time of going to press is 3 pounds per family and it works on a pay as you go basis.
The group is aimed at pre school children and we have babies as young as a few days old who stay until they are ready to go to school. In fact one mother recently had to turn back on her journey to the village hall to go to hospital to give birth!!!
The atmosphere is happy and relaxed. We try to do an art and craft activity each week, listen to a story, have fresh fruit and juice and play outside ( English weather permitting!) There is much needed tea and coffee for the parents. We have a Christmas party with a visit from father Christmas himself, Easter is marked with egg hunt and the obligatory chocolate: we also do specific activities centred around well known events such as mothers day, fathers day etc. We have a summer trip where the children who are leaving receive small gifts to wish them well as they go on to bigger things.
We also try to arrange the occasional night out for the parents if they wish to join us. Our Christmas do was great fun last year and provided a good excuse for the parents to get out and have some fun. It is predominantly mothers that come but we also have grandmothers and child minders and even the occasional man!! Fathers / grandfathers will always be made to feel welcome!
